In a world filled with chaos, fear, and uncertainty, lasting peace, hope, and purpose can seem impossible. Even still, Jesus Christ continues to transform people who hear and understand His message of repentance, forgiveness, and love.

When we are honest with ourselves, our conscience compels us to ask, how can we be perfect? Our hearts long for eternity but we also know death is a fearful reality that we must all face at some point. Despite our best efforts and good deeds, we know we can’t save ourselves from death. We need someone to save us.

Jesus stepped out of the glory of heaven over 2000 years ago, when He was born of a virgin named Mary in Bethlehem. He arrived at just the right time in history to solve the problem of sin and death for us once for all.

As the fullness of God in human flesh, Jesus lived a perfectly sinless life, taught His followers the way of love and authenticated His authority with miracles, the forgiveness of people's sins, and the fulfilment of prophecy to prove He is the Messiah.

He was not always well-received though, and Jewish religious leaders often felt threatened by His power and authority. Led by pride and jealousy, they orchestrated Jesus’ cruel torture and crucifixion on the Roman cross. Nevertheless, Jesus willingly laid down His for us, for three days after His death and burial He rose again to life, proving that He is true, He is God, and and that He has all authority over life and death.

Our sins burden us with guilt and fear which separate us from our Creator who is holy, righteous, and cannot abide by sin. But because God loves us and wants us to live, He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, so that we can be saved from the consequences of our sins which is death.

The blood Jesus shed was the atoning payment for our sins, and His resurrection is proof that it is finished.

To receive the free gift of Jesus' perfect righteousness, bought with His blood at the cross, we must come to Him in faith and true repentance to receive it. Jesus is the only name under heaven by which we must be saved. In His own words: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Rejecting Jesus means we are instead following the broad road to death, darkness, and eternal torment. No amount of religious rules or good deeds can solve the root of our problem which is sin, nd following religious laws only reveals how and we can never be truly righteous or perfect on our own.

Jesus Christ is the fullness of God in the flesh and the embodiment of love, and He came to seek and save the lost by fulfilling the law with love. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Where there is love, there is grace and forgiveness. By renouncing sin and wholeheartedly choosing to follow Jesus, we can not only be reconciled to God in peace and love, we can learn how to love and be loved by our Creator who cannot lie and wants us to live a full, abundant life through a real, personal relationship with Him based on respect and love.

His call to repentance and salvation is a prompt to examine ourselves and decide the the life we want to live— according to the truth, which leads to eternal life, or the way of sin and denial, which leads to death.

A Roman Centurion's perspective

Amidst the chaos at Golgotha, a Roman centurion stood at the cross and witnessed Jesus' last moments. Darkness had enveloped the land for hours as Jesus hung on the cross, and after He breathed His last breath, a great earthquake occurred. At the same time, graves were opened and the curtain of the Jewish temple, which was around ~18 metres tall, was torn in two from top to bottom. The centurion and those with him witnessed what took place and were filled with awe. The centurion exclaimed: "Truly this man was the Son of God!"

The Righteousness of Faith

As one of Jesus' apostles, Thomas witnessed Jesus' miracles and teachings first-hand. Yet, Jesus' resurrection was so incredible that not even Thomas could believe it until he saw and touched Jesus' hands and side for himself. Jesus said to Thomas “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Thomas' encounter with the risen Jesus is a reminder that even though nothing is impossible for God, the righteousness revealed by faith is found in our faith, hope and love, which last forever.

And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.

The Eternal Covenant: How to Be Saved

Jesus is the only name under heaven by which we can be saved, and it is only through Jesus that we can live forever. As our kinsman redeemer and perfectly sinless Lamb of God, only He has the power and authority to make us perfect and justify us to eternal life. In John 3:3, Jesus says 'Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'

Righteousness to God is based on faith, intertwined with hope and love. Following Jesus means knowing true love, and love is a wholehearted commitment.

Prayer is how we communicate with God, and it is your sincerity and humility that really matters. If you are unsure about Jesus or what to do next, you can be honest and ask Him for understanding, help, and faith. Jesus already knows everything about you, and He will meet you where you are at if you come to Him in humility.

If you would like to turn to Jesus now you can try praying something like this to get started.

Dear God in Heaven,

I know I've sinned against You and ask for Your forgiveness and mercy.

I believe Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for my sins, and rose again to life so I can be saved. I ask to receive the gift of eternal life because of the victory He has won for me.

I'm trusting in Jesus as my Lord and Saviour from this point forward. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness and help me to start a new life of peace and righteousness. Help me with my faith and help me to be the person You made me to be.

Thank You for Your patience and amazing love.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen

“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

You can get to know God by reading the Bible, which contains God's love letter to us. Try starting with John or Romans, or pray and ask Him for guidance as to what to do next. Talk about your faith in Jesus with others, and keep seeking Him, keep asking, and keep knocking. You may face opposition, doubts, fears, and many questions, but God knows what you need, and you will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart.
