Words hold the power of life and death.
Carelessly spoken words can cause significant harm to ourselves, our friends, and our family. They wield more power than physical damage, and their wounds can take far longer to heal than a broken bone.
Words embed themselves in our most painful memories, and without peace and forgiveness, they fester, making us jaded and bitter over time. So, how do we make things right? We can confess, apologise, and forgive...or we can harden our heart, run, and hide.
But what can we do when we offend our Holy God?
God is eternal, the embodiment of love, and one in three equal persons- the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is also righteous, holy, and just. When we are truly honest with ourselves, we know that we can never make amends for our sins against God, because we are imperfect.
God cannot tolerate sin, so we cannot be in His presence. This separation causes the constant nagging emptiness we experience when we are apart from Him, driving us to chase fleeting pleasures but never finding true fulfilment.
The good news is that forgiveness and lasting peace is possible, by renouncing our sins and trusting our lives to Jesus Christ, who is God incarnate, the Bible in the flesh, and the Author of life.
He lived a sinless life, willingly laid down His life on a Roman cross, and rose to life three days later, paying for our sins by the blood of His cross, and justifying those who trust in Him to eternal life. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us so we could be saved from death.
I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord
GOD; so turn, and
live.Ezekiel 18:32
I'm sorry.
I was wrong.
Please, forgive me.
I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.
And
I will
remove the heart of
stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.Ezekiel 36:26
Jesus is the Word of God, and through Him all things are made. The Bible is God's love letter to us, and it is living water that gives us life for our teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and the free gift of eternal life is received by:
- acknowledging you need a change of heart
- accepting that you are a sinner in need of salvation, and
- receiving Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, who has paid the price for your sins at the cross, making peace and eternal life with God possible.

Jesus is the only name under heaven by which we must be saved. By coming to Him, we can establish a relationship with our Father in Heaven that is based on trust, faith, hope, and love instead of doubt, fear, and the lies of sin that leads to death.
With our words, we can communicate with God in prayer. He knows our hearts and minds intimately, having created everyone and everything, and He is waiting for you to turn to Him so that He can heal you with love.
Choose life in Jesus
Words help us walk the narrow path to life, and because of Jesus' finished work on the cross, we can come to God directly so we can personally receive forgiveness and peace and learn from Him in love and righteousness.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)
If you would like to make peace with God, you can try praying something like this to get started.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I know I don't have the power to overcome my sins on my own. I'm sorry for hurting You and others, and I ask for Your forgiveness and mercy. I want to know You, and follow the way of righteousness. I believe Jesus shed His blood for my sins and rose again again to life so I can be at peace with You.
I trust in Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness and work in my life for good. Help me with my faith and help me to be blessing to others and to You. Thank You so much for Your patience and love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
