Mountains

Every new year is an opportunity to reflect on our life, set goals, and plan for the future. But to truly have a fresh start, we need more than human effort; we must be born again.

Light of the world

At various points in life we often desire change, sometimes drastic, to fix what feels missing. But to truly have a clean slate, live a life of peace and righteousness and stick to it, we need an entire life reset. This is not just possible, it is a free gift— not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord God Almighty.

Jesus Christ, who is our Creator and God incarnate, met humanity where we were at over 2,000 years ago, when He was born of the virgin Mary in Bethlehem. He lived the perfect, sinless life that we can’t to pay the debt we can never pay ourselves, by willingly dying on the cross and shedding His blood for our sins— the guilt and shame that weighs us down. Rising from the grave three days later to hundreds of witnesses, He definitively proved His divinity and ultimate authority over life and death, and made the way for us to personally make peace with God so we can live in eternity with Him.

God did not send His Son into the world to condemn, but that through Him the world might be saved. Jesus shares His victory over death with all who come to Him in sincerity, humility, and repentance, by giving believers the power of His Spirit. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom, and by relying on His strength we can truly say no to sin, break the bad habits that enslave us, be delivered from evil thoughts and temptation, and live a life founded on peace and true love.

Just as we remove the old in our lives to make way for the new, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. Eternal life isn’t earned by our own merit, self-improvement, philosophy, knowledge, or quick fixes. It’s about surrendering to our Lord and allowing Him to transform us into holy, righteous beings who can stand before Him in love, spirit, and truth.

What is your new year’s resolution?

The weight of sin often makes us feel unredeemable, but nothing is impossible with God. When we give our life over to Jesus, He can turn even the worst parts of ourself around to reveal the power of true love, for God IS love, and where there is love, there is grace and forgiveness.

Instead of striving for temporary goals motivated by lust and selfish desires, we can know our Creator, be guided in love, and find our true purpose. The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and crushed in spirit, and through Him, we can make peace with God in a directly personal way, through prayer. All we need is faith, even as small as a mustard seed, that God is true and Jesus died and rose again to redeem you of your sins.

Will you let the Lord into your life and accept His free gift of righteousness and peace to you? If you don’t know where to start, you can pray something like this to get started.

Dear God in Heaven,

Thank You for my life and upholding me, even when I’ve hurt You and others.

I am sorry for my sins, and I ask for Your forgiveness and mercy. I know I don’t have the answers to everything and I want to know You. I want to know true love, and I want to have eternal hope. I want to find my purpose in You.

I surrender my life to You and accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Please make me new, set me free from my sinful actions, thoughts, and desires, and allow me into Your kingdom. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness and help me to live a life that honours You.

Thank you for your amazing grace and love!

In Jesus' name,

Amen

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.

Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.

He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!

Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.

For the evildoers shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.

But the meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.
